A series of cellulose nanocrystal/glycerol nanocomposites with
controlled and tunable iridescent colors are prepared and their
functional applications as humidity indicators, photonic inks and
iridescent coatings are investigated. Photonic nanocomposites
from cellulose nanocrystals can potentially be developed as
optical sensors, security markings, and functional coatings.
